Prompting - Key Experiences

To get the best from Claude, know what your professor at your side can do:
  • Claude reads what you write, sees what you select, adapts to your style & (basic) formatting
  • Claude has tools to edit (replace / insert / delete) and format text
  • You can attach / upload a file & paste text / web site content for Claude to read and memorize & create content from it
  • If you do not like Claude's editing, just press "undo" in Google Docs, Slides & PowerPoint or, additionally, reject the changes in Word in Track Changes mode

Here the top learnings for better instructing Claude:

  • Make it easy for Claude, be precise:
    Be clear about the request, if it is for editing directly (default behaviour) or to get Claude's insights and suggestions in the chat?
    What's the context, the text section is it about? Is it about rewriting, summarizing, detailing, analysing, structuring, finding omissions, critique or anything else?
  • Ensure Claude does what you want:
    Ask Claude to first suggest his actions in the chat; after Claude's response, tell Claude to execute the changes suggested
  • Have changes formatted:
    To easily identify changes, ask Claude to "format changes in red" - so it's easy to recognize and review Claude's edits
